Why flight sim motion is different to racing motion

Flight is the opposite. A lot of flight motion is slow and sustained. A gentle bank into a long turn. A slow climb. The subtle settle as you level off. The float just before the wheels touch. These slow movements expose any roughness in the hardware. A motor that feels fine snapping through a chicane can feel steppy and mechanical when it is asked to ease through two degrees of roll over several seconds.
This is the single most important thing a flight sim buyer needs to understand. Smoothness at low speed matters more than raw power. A platform that handles the slow stuff cleanly will feel more real than a more powerful platform that judders through gentle inputs.
The flight specific hardware question

The VR question, because most serious flight sim is now in VR
A large share of flight sim pilots fly in VR, and motion plus VR is where this gets genuinely special, with one caveat worth understanding.
When you fly in VR without motion, your eyes see the aircraft bank and climb while your body feels nothing. That sensory mismatch is the classic cause of VR sickness in flight sim. Add a motion platform and your body starts to feel what your eyes see. The mismatch shrinks, and for a lot of people the nausea shrinks with it. The caveat is that motion and VR need to be set up to agree with each other. A platform moving in a way that does not match the visual will make things worse, not better. What is the best motion platform for MSFS 2024?
For most MSFS pilots, the DOF Reality H3R is the best balance of immersion and value. MSFS outputs detailed telemetry that the H3R translates into smooth flight motion through its reducer gearboxes. If budget allows, the H4R adds heave for turbulence and landing feedback.
Do I need the R variant or will the standard H series work for flight?
The standard H series works for flight but the R variant is noticeably smoother at low speeds. Flight sim is full of slow sustained movements where the reducer gearboxes make a real difference. Does motion help with VR sickness in flight sim?

What is the difference between a seat mover and a full platform for flight?
