A 4DOF sim racing platform combines pitch, roll, traction loss and heave. Heave is the vertical axis that recreates kerb strikes, elevation changes, track surface texture and the physical sensation of landing after a jump or crest. It is the axis that most people underestimate until they experience it. Combined with traction loss it produces a level of physical realism that significantly exceeds a 3DOF system and represents the upper end of what most home sim racers will ever need.
