The eMotion Simulators eBelt is one of the more unusual products in the sim racing hardware market. At £1,134 it is a meaningful investment for a device that tightens your harness. So is it worth it and what does it actually add to the sim racing experience?
What the eBelt does
The eBelt connects to your sim racing harness and uses an actuator mechanism to pull the belt tight in response to telemetry data from the game. Under heavy braking, the harness tightens across your chest, simulating the physical pressure of deceleration. Under cornering, it tightens laterally, simulating the load of g-force pushing you to the outside of the corner.
A key differentiator of the eMotion eBelt over competitor products is that it pulls both ways — tightening under both braking and acceleration forces rather than just one direction. This makes the sensation significantly more natural and complete.
What it actually feels like
The sensation under braking is the most immediately striking. When you commit to a heavy braking zone the harness pulls tight across your chest before you have consciously registered the deceleration. Your body gets the message before your brain. This is exactly the kind of anticipatory physical cue that real harnesses provide in real cars and it is remarkably effective at communicating braking intensity.
Under cornering the lateral tightening is more subtle but consistently present. It adds a sense of being pushed into the corner that complements other forms of motion feedback extremely well.
Does it work with your harness?
The eBelt is compatible with most standard four, five and six point racing harnesses. The harness is included in the price — competitor products often require you to purchase a harness separately. Who should buy the eBelt?
The eBelt makes the most sense as a complement to an existing seat mover or full platform. As a standalone product without any seat movement, the eBelt is still a genuine upgrade. But it performs at its best when the seat is also moving.
