DOF Reality H2R Review — Why Flight Sim Needs Different Motion to Racing

Racing motion and flight motion are not the same thing. A sim racing platform needs to snap between states quickly. Hard braking, immediate turn-in, kerb strike, throttle application. Fast transients, sharp transitions, constant change. Flight simulation needs the opposite. Gentle, sustained pitch changes during climb and descent. Prolonged roll angles during banked turns. If you do both, the decision is harder. The H2R can run racing titles. It works. But the reducer gearboxes make the racing motion feel slightly damped compared to the snappier standard H2. If racing is your primary use and flight is occasional, the H2 is the better compromise. If flight is your primary use and racing is secondary, the H2R gives you the better flight experience while still being adequate for racing.

The price difference is £170 (H2 at £2,565 vs H2R at £2,735). For a dedicated flight sim user, the reducer gearboxes are worth far more than £170.

Verdict

The DOF Reality H2R is the right entry point for flight simulation motion. Reducer gearboxes make a tangible difference to how flight dynamics feel on the platform, and the £170 premium over the standard H2 is easily justified for anyone whose primary use is flying. If flight simulation is your thing, do not buy the standard H2 and try to make it work. Buy the R variant. It was designed for exactly what you want to do.
