The RECARO Pro-Racer SP-G is the GFRP version of RECARO's professional GT and touring competition seat range — offering the same proven ergonomics and FIA 8855-1999 certification as the SP-A at a more accessible price point, with a glass fibre reinforced polymer shell rather than the Carbon-Kevlar of the SP-A.

Designed for GT vehicles, sports cars, touring cars and rally applications, the SP-G features RECARO's signature S-shaped backrest with built-in lumbar support and was developed specifically for use alongside HANS head and neck safety systems. A well-established choice for club motorsport and sim rig builders who want proper RECARO competition seating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between fibreglass and carbon fibre seats?

Fibreglass (GFRP) shells are heavier than carbon but offer good strength and impact resistance at a more accessible price point. For sim racing the weight difference is irrelevant — what matters is the shell rigidity, lateral support and ergonomics, all of which fibreglass competition seats deliver well. Carbon is lighter and generally stiffer, which matters more in real-world racing where total car weight is regulated.

Do I need FIA homologation for sim racing use?

No — FIA certification is only required for real-world competition. For sim use, the FIA standard is a useful indicator of shell quality and safety engineering. All seats in this category carry FIA 8855-1999 or FIA 8855-2021 certification, confirming they meet proper competition shell construction standards.

What is the difference between FIA 8855-1999 and FIA 8855-2021?

FIA 8855-2021 is the updated version of the long-standing 8855-1999 standard, introduced to reflect modern testing methodologies. Seats certified to 8855-2021 carry a 10-year homologation period from manufacture. Both standards are valid for competition use — 2021 simply represents the newer testing framework.

What mounting hardware do I need to fit these seats to my sim rig?

Most seats in this category use standard FIA side mounts with 290mm bolt spacing, compatible with all major aluminium profile cockpits. The OMP HTE EVO VTR and HTC EVO VTR require the specific OMP bracket HC0-0951-A03 — they are not compatible with universal side mounts. RECARO Pole Position and Podium seats require specific Pole Position mounting brackets rather than universal side mounts. Contact us before ordering to confirm the correct bracket for your rig.

What is the difference between the OMP HTE EVO VTR and HTC EVO VTR?

Both are the same FIA 8855-2021 certified fibreglass seat with identical specification. The HTE has taller head and shoulder containment — better for rigs with full headroom. The HTC has a lower, more compact containment profile — better for rigs with limited headroom or where a lower seating position is preferred. If you are unsure, contact us with your cockpit model and we can advise.

What is the difference between the RECARO Pro-Racer SP-A and SP-G?

The SP-A uses a Carbon-Kevlar composite shell — lighter and stiffer. The SP-G uses a fibreglass shell — slightly heavier but the same proven RECARO ergonomic design at a lower price. Both carry FIA 8855-1999 certification and share the same S-shaped backrest, paddable lumbar and HANS compatibility.

What size seat do I need?

Most seats in this range come in Standard and XL variants — XL adds approximately 50mm of width and height. As a general guide, if your waist measurement is above 38 inches or you are over 6ft tall, XL is worth considering. Contact us if you are unsure and we can advise based on your measurements.
